Underwater archaeological discovery in Puerto Rico

This was some exciting news that appeared in the Associated Press today. Police were called in to investigate a report of human remains found by a fisherman, just off the coast at Luquillo Beach, known locally as Balneario de Luquillo – La Monserrate. When police divers investigated they believe they have found an archeological site of a possible sunken colonial era ship.

The police divers found what appear to be a cannon, pieces of a ship, human bones, a sword and a medal engraved with the name Isabel II at 6 different areas near Luquillo beach. Archeologists believe that the pieces come from the 17th / 18th century. Pretty exciting stuff, if you ask me.
