Rincon Lighthouse | Faro de Punta Higuero, Puerto RicoBeing an island, Puerto Rico is blessed to have a number of lighthouses on the main island as well as the smaller outer islands. One of the most popular with visitors is the Rincon Lighthouse also known as El Faro de Punta Higuero.

Location, Location, Location

The lighthouse’s popularity is due mainly to its location, which offers some of the best views on the west coast, including those amazing sunsets that Rincon is renowned for. It is also a great spot to try to see Humpback Whales during the annual whale migration season from January to late March.

Domes Beach, Rincon

The Lighthouse Park

Along with the lighthouse, which makes for a great photo backdrop. The park is the perfect spot to see Desecheo Island, catch some surfers taming the waves at Domes Beach and Indicators Beach. It is also a great spot to catch one of those amazing west coast sunsets.

From January to late March, Rincon Lighthouse is also a good starting point for Whale Watching, as Humpback Whales migrate through the Mona passage. A sighting is not guaranteed, but it is a good place to start.

Along with views of Domes Beach, you will also the green dome of the former Nuclear Reactor, Nuclear Reactor, that is noe decommisioned. Hence the name of teh beach; Domes

Rincon Lighthouse Facts

  • The original Rincon Lighthouse was built 1892 and had a Mediterranean Castle design with exposed and indented brick work around the door and windows. Unfortunately the lighthouse was completely destroyed during the 1918 earthquake
  • In 1822 the Rincon Lighthouse was rebuilt and the light was switched to battery power in 1959.
  • In 1993 the lighthouse was restored and converted in the current Rincon Lighthouse Park
