  1. I remember when I was a teenager the Blue Angel came to Puerto Rico. We drove all the way across the other side of the island to see them it was an experience to remember. To my recognition I can’t quiet remember if we paid to see them or not. But the experiences was worth the trip. So I’ll probaly see the Thunder Birds but I’ll have to think about paying to see the air show when now it almost right in my back yard.

    1. Hi Margie

I just wish there was more information available about this event. As for paying, I’m sure there will be places to watch the displays from outside the airport :o)

  2. Only in Puerto Rico will you be charge admission to the Thunderbirds ,when they put on shows nationwide and its free of charge! The Thunderbirds is a military unit which is part of the United States Air Force and its main goal is Public relations for its civilians in this nation !How dare some Puerto Rican promoter is trying to make a buck of this event ..Another “ONLY IN PUERTO RICO STORY”…

    1. Hi Michale

This statement ‘Only in Puerto Rico will you be charge admission to the Thunderbirds’ might not be that accurate. Last month there was the Florida Air Show and granted they had the ‘Blue Angels’ Display team and not the Thunderbirds, but it’s the same principle. This event also charged an entrance fee $18-20. You can find it here http://www.floridaairshow.com/fias_tickets.html

    2. Really? How about Abbottsford, BC? Reno Air Races? Oshkosh etc?
Usually, the only free airshows are at military bases.

      BTW,
      Scott, you are so correct.

  3. I have a ton of “only in Puerto Rico” stories. Not sure about being charged to view military aircraft, but this place has some whoppers!

I am on my second tour of duty down here, have family here, but frankly can’t wait to leave.

Puerto Rico is the land of confusion and corruption. I think Capt Ron said it best, “It’s the land of whodoo, voodoo and all sorts of weird sh!t.”

I will take the kids and enjoy the air show though.

  4. 3. The local sponsoring organization is responsible for the accuratecompletion of the form and conducting the event. The information on thisform must be typed or printed in ink, and is used to evaluate the event forcompliance with public law and Department of Defense policies, and todetermine its eligibility for Armed Forces participation. In all cases, militaryparticipation must not interfere with military operations and trainingprograms, and must be at no additional cost to the U.S. Government.Sponsors will consult with local military recruiters and provide, at no charge, prime space at the event site for recruiting activities. Department of Defenseis unable to support events for which sponsorship is intended to make abusiness profit. Events which have an admission charge, or otherassociated charges, do not necessarily preclude military participation.Military commands cannot participate in events which charge admissionunless the military participation is incidental to the event, and not the primaryattraction. Incomplete forms, or forms submitted late, cannot be consideredand will be returned to the sponsor’s representative.4. Requests for flyovers will be considered only for aviation-

  5. Thanks, Coquí, for the information! I myself will hold off on making negative comments about the admission cost. I suspect that the free-admission air shows are probably held on active military bases. This one, however, is being held at a FORMER military base, and therefore is obviously a commercial initiative, and thus will charge admission.

As to “Only in _____” stories, I’ve got a bunch of them too, filling in the blank with not only Puerto Rico but also NY, FL, MO, KS, MA, TX, LA.

    Don’t worry, be happy.

  6. The reason for free airshows is that they are usually sponsored by a Military Base that Host the participants. This event is being held at a non-military facility. As mentioned above the event is been sponsored by a company trying to make some profit from the event. So this is not just another PR Story.

  7. Why making comments about a place in this case Puerto Rico , it’s not about the island, why we have to complain of paying 20 dollars to enjoy an airshow, just to give you an example they will be an Airshow in two weeks in Lakeland FL. admission will be 35 dollars per day. what’s the difference beside the 15 dollars ?

An for those that have complains about PR , maybe the island have they own problems, but you now what nothing better that our beautiful 100 x 35 island

    Let’s enjoy the airshow, cheers.

    1. Thanks for the comment. I agree, I don’t see what the problem is for paying for an event like this. May be the original comment was due to the fact that airshows they have been to have been on actual US Air Force bases and probably free (just a guess).

Back in the UK, all air shows that I ever attended were paid events and from what I have found on the internet, a lot in the states are too.

Again, thanks fot the comment and yes ‘enjoy the airshow’ – hope the actial event is BETTER than the information that I have been able to find :o)

  8. I am excited that an airshow is coming to PR! The price is in line with many other similar private events in the US mainland. The complainers are actually comical, enjoy the Air Show! This first year, I am expecting a small show. If enough tickets are sold, and there appears to be sincere interest, then each year the sponsors and advertisers will respond by improving the show. I love living in Puerto Rico. It only gets better every year.

    1. Hola,

I’m sorry, I so not know if there will be seats. As you can see from the original article, there is very little information online about this event. If you intend to go, I would probably take along some chairs in the car, just in case

  10. I’m glad that finally will be something different in PR that is not been seeing everyday…SPORT AVIATION is the best and well recognize…but be ready to have no refund on the tickets if its rain before the presentation of the Thund erbirds…that happens to us few years ago in Aguadilla and was sad because was a lot of $$$$ involved just to see some kind of a helicopter from the AEE picking up a pole and little airplanes flying around…plus the planification of the event was bad because the people collecting the money at the entrance were not well orintaded on the half a price on the handicapps…and older people. I will be on vacations next May and I will attend the one at the Andrew Air Force Base in Washington, DC and you know what that is free because is at a Military Base and the only thing they charge is for the parking that is probably $ 5.00 but you will see so many planes that I know we will be there the hole day….anyway good luck here in PR and pray for no rain that weekend………………

  11. Hola Sra Rivera:

  12. Dear Scott,
After bashing PR so emphatically,I have the feeling that “back home” for you is not much more than a W.T. Trailer Park….

    1. Hi Daniel

According to the ticketpop website, some Banco Popular branches are also selling tickets. You could phone your nearest one to see if they have them. Or pay on the day at the air show.

  14. I would like to know at what time the Thunderbirds fly and the golden nights perform. Does anyone know?

  15. Does anyone know if your able to bring a cooler to this event and were you able to bring one into the aguadilla show?

  16. @Luis – I can’t find out any info on times for ths show. Sorry

@Jerry – no idea about taking a cooler, but no harm in having one with you and asking at the gate

@Israel – as the comments above state. Even in the USA some Air Shows with the Thunderbirds and other military displays are NOT FREE. From what I can tell it depends on where the event is held. If it is on a military base, it will more than likely be free. On private area then there is a charge. So here in Puerto Rico they are not doing anything that is not done in the States.

But like I have mentioned above. I’m sure there will be places to view the show from outside the airport.

  17. By my experience attending others airshows including the ones on the USA, no coolers are permited at the premisses of the show. remember bussiness is bussiness. yes you can bring some chairs to be able to sit and enyoy the show and for the price of the tickets, I think its to much and this is not including the fee for the parking, so if you are planning to attend this event make sure to have extra bucks ( $$$$$$$ ) with you to eat/drink in the area because most of the meals are expensive… to bad. Hoped who ever goes enyoy the show and behave, please………………

Espero q no haya problemas aunque haya fila.

    1. Thanks Roxana for the info.

For those interested (from Google Translate):
Aerial displays started around noon. Before that there are static displays to look around. No beer or coolers can be taken in (I think). Recommended to take chairs and umbrella as sun was very hot. The Thunderbirds display started around 4:15pm.

  20. Papachote~~ Is right on target, if Roosey was still active it would be free. Thanks PR GOVT~

  21. I am very happy that everything went well with no incidents, and especially happy because my daughter was enlisted into the airforce by the captain of the thunderbirds.I am from Ceiba,Puerto Rico.[El Indio].Que viva mi tierra.
