President's Day in Puerto Rico

Just like in the USA, Presidents Day is a Holiday here in Puerto Rico, so for locals and visitors to the island President’s Day Weekend is a long weekend.

Puerto Rico Government employees will not be working on the Monday, so you can expect the popular tourist attractions and especially beaches, will be busy during the President’s Day Weekend.

Beaches

The island of Puerto Rico is blessed with some beautiful beaches including: Luquillo Beach, Mar Chiquita (Manati), and La Playuela Beach(Cabo Rojo).

A short ferry or plane ride away are the islands of Vieques and Culebra. Both islands have amazing white sand beaches including the world famous Flamenco Beach on Culebra. Not to be out done you will find several beautiful beaches on Vieques too.

Note: The ferries during the weekend will be busy, so plan to arrive at the terminal very early to avoid the long lines.

Attractions

Another popular attraction is El Yunque Rainforest and although some of the trails are still closed due to Hurricane Maria, El Yunque will still be very busy.

2024 President’s Day Weekend Events

There is always something fun to do on a weekend in Puerto Rico; Town Festivals, Food Festivals, Family activities and more. Here are a few this happening around Puerto Rico during Presidents Day Weekend.

Feb 16 – 18, Festival Del Chapin, Naguabo

Annual town festival that celebrates the local fish Chapin. There will be exhibitions of dishes made with Chapin and various other seafoods along with sports, games, artisans, music, children’s entertainment and more. There will be competitions for the best Chapin dishes in several categories.

The Chapin Festival will take place at the Malecon de Naguabo starting at 5pm Friday, 12pm Saturday and 3pm Sunday

Feb 16, Viernes de Salsa, Isabela

Salsa Fridays returns to Isabela with dance classes, dance exhibitions, food kiosks and more. Salsa Fridays takes place at Plaza de Recreo in Isabela from 7 – 11:30pm

Feb 16 – 18, 57th Carnaval Arroyano

The town of Arroyo celebrates its 57th Carnaval with the parade of queens, live music, artisans and gastronomy offerings.

The Carnaval Arroyano takeds place at the Malecón de Arroyo (Paseo Las Américas), Calle Marina in Arroyo. 

Feb 16 – 18, Fiesta del Acabe del Café, Maricao

The town of maricao celebrates its 42nd annual coffee festival in the town’s main plaza. The weekend will feature coffee in many forms, a dramatización de la Fiesta del Acabe del Cafe, artisans, agricultural fair, food kiosks and more.

The festival starts at 6:30pm Friday, 10am Saturday and 9am Sunday

Feb 17 – 18, Festival de La Arepa, Vieques

The 8th annual Festival de la Arepa Viequense will be held in the Vieques Main Plaza and will feature the town’s famous food: Arep. This is a fun family event with music, artisans, food stands, and much more.

The Festival starts at 8am Saturday and 12pm Sunday

Feb 17 – 18, Festival Chuíto, Bayamón

This is the first year that the Festival Chuíto will be held in Bayamon where music will be the highlight with Puerto Rican native and prominent Bayamón troubadour Don Jesús Sánchez Erazo.

The festival is “dedicated to “Chuíto”, who was born and lived his entire life in Bayamón, from where he made the most noble feelings known to the world with his decimal narrative.
