Rafael, sorry to hear about your bad experience. No excuse for waiting that long and then having the bill issues.

I have not been to that restaurant so can't comment but do think it is a great spot to visit

El Cacique actually, is not a restaurant. Is a black hole and needs to be close by the PR Health Department. Yesterday, it was working without water!!! The side dishes (arañitas) took an hour and a half and the food MORE THAN 2 HOURS!!!! How long does it takes to make nuggets and french fries for 2 hungry kids? Once you are there, you can't walk away because you need to wait for the restaurant boat, so you are out of options. It was a normal crowd, so that's not an excuse. At the end, the credit and ATM system was not working, so you need to pay in cash. Also they add the tip to the check and calculate it using even the tax. First time in my life in a restaurant that they calculate tip based on the grand total, including the tax. I don't have a problem to tip for service, but if you don't receive your food in 2 hours and the host don't even bring you napkins, where is the service? Finally, I was not alone. Other people wait more 3 hours for food. Anybody out there. Municipality of Utuado, PR Tourism Company, PR Health Department, close this hell hole!!! Puerto Rico does it better??????

I visted Lago dos Bocas for a lunch trip with the family (10) and was treated like royalty by El Fogon de la Abuela staff even before deciding to go there. At the embarcadero the gentleman in charge made an excellent sales pitch without being pushy. The boat captain was also very versed and willing to explain about the lake. The food was excellent and we tried from all sections of the menu; picadera grande for starters, carne mechada, churrasco, mofongo relleno de pollo, empanada de pollo, filete de chillo, filete de mero, chillo entero and fricase de guinea. The side dishes were also great, in particular the aranitas and the tostones were extra crunchy and tasted like true Puerto Rico.
As to the waiting, we had planned the trip as a whole day event so waiting to get accross the lake was not an issue, but what really helped was that the staff did not make promises they did not keep and were not lead to false expectations (we were going on the boat in 1.5 hrs), anyway the local bar next door to the embarcadero had plenty to offer. Once we got to El Fogon we were seated within 5 min. Service as great and eager to please.
Treat yourself to Lago Dos Bocas and El Fogon de la Abuela, I will again!!!

[...] Lago Dos Bocas is a man-made lake located in the Utuado area of Puerto Rico, approximately 90 minutes west of San Juan. Don’t let the ‘man-made’ put you off, trust me, the location is great, the lake is impressive and as an added bonus it has 4 great lakeside restaurants. [...]
