Balneario El Escambron (Escambron Beach) is the closest beach to Old San Juan, at the Third Millennium Park , just to the west of the Normandie Hotel (and Caribe Hilton).
The beach is within easy walking distance of the Normandie and Carib Hilton hotels, though from Old San Juan I’d recommend taking the local bus or a taxi.
The beach is crescent shaped with calm waters due to the coral reef just off shore. In 2007 is was named as one of Puerto Rico’s Blue Flag beaches and is open daily between 8:30am – 5pm with lifeguards on duty. During winter months (September – March). The beach is closed Mondays and Tuesdays (no lifeguards and facilities are closed, but you can still use the beach).
The reef provides an opportunity to snorkel and there is plenty of shade when you need to take a break from the sun.
