One of the options that you have when you visit Puerto Rico is to take a trip to the islands of Vieques and Culebra. Both islands offer a more relaxed feel with excellent beaches. The cheapest way to travel to Vieques or Culebra is to take the ferry from Fajardo (approx 90mins drive from San Juan)
The ferry to either island takes around 60-90mins depending on weather conditions.

I have tried calling the numbers for the ferry service MANY times, but I am never able to get through. Nonetheless, like Mark said, Culebra is AWESOME!!!
