Metropol for Authentic Cuban and Puerto Rican Cuisine

Metropol Restaurant for Cuban and Puerto Rican CuisineIf you are looking for authentic, good quality, value for money Cuban / Puerto Rican cuisine while on vacation in Puerto Rico; then check out a Metropol restaurant. The Metropol restaurant chain comprises 4 different locations; Isla Verde, Hato Rey, Fajardo and the newest in Guaynabo.

From what I have been able to see on various sites and forums, Metropol always gets a thumbs up. The latest location in Guaynabo has become our neighborhood ‘go to’ restaurant. We have been to this location several times and we always come away having had an excellent meal, without having to break the bank.

The menu is fairly extensive with typical dishes from Cuba and Puerto Rico. On any given day, the menu will also include specials for that day. Here are just a few of the mouth watering dishes on offer:

Appetizers:
Croquetas
Empanadillas (one of our favorites)
Queso Frito (one of our favorites)
Sesos Rebozados (breaded brains)
Alcapurrias (plantain fritters)

Main Dishes:
Gallinita Relleno de Congri (stuffed Cornish hen) (another favorite)
Garbanzos Fritos con Jamon y Chorizo (fried chick pea with ham and Spanish sausage)
Chicharrones de Pollo (fried diced chicken)
Aporreada de Tasajo (cured shredded beef in creole sause (another favorite)
Filete de Dorado (mahi-mahi)
Filite de Chillo (red snapper)
Arroz con Mariscos (seafood paella)

Check out the menu online for more details.

From our experience, Metropol always serves good quality food at an affordable price. If you are in the San Juan area, the closest location will be Isla Verde.

Hope you enjoy as much as we do.

  1. Went to eat here based on recommendations from resort. Service was absolutely awful. We left after 45 minutes of no one even taking our drink orders. It appeared that it was more important to clean off empty tables then to wait on customers. Hacienda right up the street is a much better option.

    1. Sorry to hear that

Have not been to that one so can’t say if that is a regular problem there. Glad you found another restaurant near by

  2. We have been to the one on Isla Verde and it is always wonderful. My husband is from Puerto Rico, but I am from Florida and my Spanish is really bad. The waiters always make an effort to talk to me in English (even though I do not expect this) and make me feel comfortable. The food is outstanding and we make it a priority to visit every time we are in Puerto Rico.

    1. Hi Jill, glad you enjoy Metropol. I’ve always had good food when ever I have been to the one close to home

  3. We had a wonderfull dish of bacalla at your restaurant.
The fish came with an assortment of root vegetables.
Could you please indicate what were the root vegetables used in this dish.

    Thank you Chaim Frenkel

    1. Glad you enjoyed your meal. The restaurant is not mine so I am not sure what root veg you would have had. Some options would be Yuca, Batata,
